A significant geomagnetic storm is anticipated to make the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, visible across a broad swath of the United States, potentially reaching as many as 22 states from Monday night into Tuesday. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this spectacular display is due to a coronal mass ejection from a powerful X1.9 solar flare directed towards Earth. This ejection is expected to interact strongly with Earth’s magnetic field, potentially pushing the auroras into mid-latitude regions.
