Coast Guard saves four stranded seal hunters
On a Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully executed a rescue operation, saving four seal hunters who were stranded on an ice floe near Chefornak, Alaska. The hunters found themselves in peril after their boat became immobilized on the ice, leaving them trapped for over 24 hours. Despite managing to free their vessel, they were unable to reach a rescue party from the shore. Fortunately, the hunters possessed satellite communication equipment, enabling them to coordinate directly with rescuers. In response, the Coast Guard deployed an HC-130 search aircraft and an MH-60 helicopter from Air Station Kodiak, situated approximately 370 nautical miles away.
